The AIM Research Center for Work and Organization
is a social science research center dedicated to understanding the implications of artificial intelligence and related technologies for workers, managers, and other stakeholders. We are building an interdisciplinary community of scholars who conduct rigorous empirical research - grounded in the real-world challenges facing organizations and policymakers - to understand the implications of and opportunities for artificial intelligence in the workplace.

We seek candidates to fill one full-time position at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track), starting July 1, 2019. Applicants must complete their Ph.D. prior to the start date. We welcome applications from social scientists with a PhD in management, industrial engineering, law, or any social science discipline.

The Center supports research on the nature and impact of AI and related technologies in the workplace in three domains:

Work: The implications of AI for work including, for example, issues of coordination, expertise, authority, job and organizational design.

Human Resources and Labor Markets: The design, use, and consequences of people analytics tools. The labor market implications of AI including employment relations, changing job prospects and employment stability, and opportunities for wage and career growth.

Governance:  Issues of technological choice, stakeholder consultation and collaboration, and ethical and normative responsibility, across industries and within organizations. Real world efforts by governments, organizations, unions, associations, and NGOs to address issues of workplace governance.

The Center is directed by Professor Ruthanne Huising. 

The emlyon Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Management (AIM) is a multifaceted initiative focused on understanding the opportunities and implications of artificial intelligence for the management of organizations, industries, and business ecosystems. To do this, AIM initiates and sponsors:

  • Pedagogical experiences that expose and prepare our students to work with and manage AI technologies.
  • Enterprise and ecosystem development that supports technologists and managers in the evolution, adoption, and implementation of AI technologies.
  • Research that examines how AI and related technologies are altering work, organizations, consumer behavior, and business ecosystems.
